I've had braces for almost five years. I used ti like them when I got them. I guess it was because I was a teenager, and braces basically symbolized being a teenager. Now that I've had them, and I've had extensive dental work done to help the braces work propperly, I absolutely despise them!. What was your braces experience? If you have braces, what do you like/hate about 'em.

I currently do not have them, but used to, about four years ago. I had them for about a year and a half, and they really didn't bother me. At first it kind of did but that was because I wasn't used to them at the time, so they just felt funny. And I remember often throughout the entire time, I'd have dreams that all my teeth would fall out. I'd dream of my braces coming out, and my teeth with them, and they were all pretty similar. Then, when I got them off, it felt a little weird too! I still have some of the glue stuck to one of my molers. When they were taking that stuff off it kind of hurt. Also I would eat whatever I wanted and my brackets would fall out a couple of times, but I guess I didn't really mind! Lol!
Oh, I take that back, i had them for almost 2 years, but it wasn't all that bad really.
But yeah, those were my experiences. Only thing I hated was that I'd have to come home from Austin just for appointments and stuff, but yeah.

I think i must have had mine for two years, but it certainly felt onger with teh monthy appointments to tighten the damn things. That hurt like hell because one of my front teeth came in completely sideways with the part that normally faces your upper lip, toward the right side of my mouth. that turnedi n three months, a much shorter time than i thought it would take. Anyway, it was not pleasant, but it's all worth it when you get them taken off and your teeth look nicer. Hmmmm, perhaps I should start a topic abuot overbites, as I'm looking at possibe jaw surgery to repair mine later on in life ...

I've had braces for the last year and a half.... I've had all sorts of other dental work done as well... the braces kinda suck, and I generally wind up with headaches after the tightening... but I don't mind them so much... they're just there, I guess... I just got my bottom ones put on last week and they hurt WAY more than the top ones, but now it's like they're supposed to be there.

I used to have braces. I had them for 2 years and four, five, or six months. After a month or two, I didn't mind them at all. It did hurt a bit when they were tightened, and especially when I got the power chains. Some of my brackets popped off sometimes because I'd be careless about how I ate certain foods. I think the weirdest part of having braces was the rubber bands. I popped a cazillion of them.
Now, I have retainers, and not those stupid, removable ones. Mine aren't visible unless you look in my mouth. They're just flat pieces of I don't know the material, but they're the size, shape of, and a little thinner than my teeth. I have four on my top front teeth and six at the bottom in front. They're not bothersome at all. I'm really glad I didn't have to get those removable ones that make you sound funny when you speak when you first get them.
The worst part of it all though, is when they take the molds of your teeth. Terrible shit!

Absolutely despised the bloody braces from the word go, when mum and Gran made me have them since I was 9. Mind you, my top teeth were so out of shape, out of line, all the rest of it, I guess the 3 retainers, the fixed brace and the tramline brace were all worth it although they were all tight, not to mention sore and uncomfortable at times, especially when I couldn't just rip them out and stick 'em in my pocket if they were cemented in.

Also, I had the mickey taken out of me so much in the first 3.5 years or so of Secondary School because I was still wearing braces, plus my eye/facial condition made the resulting lisp and the drooling one hell of a lot worse.

In the end, when I'd had two fixed braces and two retainers and I was on my third retainer to finish the years of straightening and sore gums off, I eventually just gave up with the last retainer, put it in its box and I still have it in this room as I write, for old times sake, lol. Its almost exactly the same as the retainer I started out with when I was 9.
